Hi,
u.c has awarded me back pay for careers element back to 2019 but has not given me a date or amount. Does anyone know how long this takes? And is it one payment as iv been told they now pay back in instalments.

Hi and welcome to the community
There are no timescales for back pay it needs calculating , authorisation then releasing and clear in your bank
They sometimes pay by instalments if they think a person can't manage their finances or if requested by the claimant -
Ok thank you, I only received the letter yesterday and didn’t completely understand it to start with, as there was no break down or amount added or even a date, I’m used to the letters from pip or the old JC as they would specify everything in one letter.

Before they know how much they owe you they will need to recalculate your past statements. From this they will know how much you’ve received and how much you were supposed to have received and you will be paid the difference.Quite often it takes a few weeks to do this. Once it’s done you’ll receive another letter on your journal.I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying. If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

Hello @chertyler I'm very glad to hear our members were able to reassure you.
You aren't the first person to ask this question, so to help everyone find it more easily I've moved it over into our Universal Credit category and edited the title slightly. I hope that's okay
