My friends are being denied vehicle access to their allotments during the Commonwealth Games

Hi, I’m joining as I want to be able to help my friends with disabilities being denied vehicle access to their allotments during the Commonwealth Games. They are being denied access for 10 days unless they walk or use public transport. Some of them are in wheelchairs, another is blind, some can’t walk long distances carrying things they need AND there are animals (cats and chickens) living there as well! What if one of them is poorly and needs a vet?

My friends have contacted lots of people who make decisions, and keep getting past from one to another, no one helps or listens😢😢 the Birmingham Mail did an article explaining their plight on 13/5/22 but still nothing is resolved. Can anyone on here help them please xx0

Hi @AngelCatThomas Welcome to the community
I'm sorry that your friends are in this situation, as I imagine it's pretty frustrating! As well as contacting decision makers, have they tried contacting larger news outlets, or posting about this on social media?0 -
Yes, their supporters have contacted lots of celebrity “friends” of the community but none have stepped up to publicise this problem. Now after contacting Scooe and others, they have contacted the Mirror ( one of their sister papers published the story last week) and also contacted also there is a strong present on twitter @allotmentcat, and a petition at change.org. Please feel free to read the full story in Birmingham Mail 13/5/22 titled access denied to allotments.1

Tori_Scope said:Is it this article on Birmingham Mail @AngelCatThomas? Yes, that’s the one. We are still trying to get answers and contacting as many people as we can think of, also found the National Allotment Society and have emailed them too. Was watching GBNEWS last night where they were talking about how great the “Games for Everyone” will be, but sadly they have ignored the allotment holders and the animals, which cant be allowed to happen.
