Hi, I'm amick! Does anybody have ideas about how we can move forward with my grandson's college?

My grandson is18 and autistic. He finally got his diagnosis at 16 yrs old. He has been in college for 3 years. He got his EHCP on 4th May 2022 after a hard fought battle. We were delighted. It appears to cover everything we wished, however his college informed us that it isn’t specific enough on the timing involved in each area of help. They now tell me they can’t apply for high funding for his needs and so have not offered him a place in the college for next year. Has anyone any ideas on how we can move forward? The only suggestion I have had is that we could get rid of the EHCP and move on without the extra support.
Thanks for any help

Hi @amick - & welcome to the community. I wonder if you've contacted IPSEA (Independent Provider of Special Education Advice) as they may be able to advise you? See: https://www.ipsea.org.uk/Scope also has some info pages that I hope you find helpful. Please see: https://www.scope.org.uk/advice-and-support/education/ehcp-education-health-and-care-plan/0

Hello @amick and welcome to the community, it's lovely to see you join us.
I have moved your thread over to our Education category and edited the title a bit I would second the suggestion above of contacting IPSEA, and I hope you have found the replies from other members helpful so farThis is a very supportive and welcoming site to be a part of so I’m hopeful that you’ll find it to be a positive outlet. Feel free to have a look around and get involved wherever you’d like 😊 I have included below a few of the pages I’d recommend having a look through to get used to things:
- The virtual coffee lounge which is one of our categories, in which we play games and talk about general subjects such as hobbies and interests
- The recent discussions page, which shows an overview of everything happening across the community
- The categories page, which shows a full list of discussion groups on the community
If you have any questions at all then don’t hesitate to ask.
