First commitment

Hi,my partner has just gone self employed,I have to go to a first commitment appointment,I receive pip and am on esa support group,I have ptsd depression and generalised anxiety,why do I have to do this ? Also they have just changed my appointment from tomorrow until next week and Iv spent all weekend getting myself wound up,why would they do that? Thank you

If this is a new claim for Universal Credit then attending for your first appointment is normal. After this you won't be expected to attend any further appointments.

If your PIP includes the daily living part has your partner reported being your carer? If they do then they will entitled to carers element as part of your maximum UC entitlement. They will also not have any further appointments being a carer.

Thank you so much for your response,we’ve just put in for him being my carer,my pip is standard care and mobility,we haven’t gone down that route as we don’t understand it all,so with him being my carer he is allowed to work self employed? The reason for him doing this is so he can work around me,thank you

Yes, absolutely, there's no earnings limit when claiming carers element, like this is with carers allowance. You don't need to claim carers allowance to be entitled to carers element.

As a carer claiming carers element the minimum income floor won't apply either, which is a good thing.

As you're in the Support Group for ESA then you'll be entitled to the LCWRA element from the start of your claim.

If any part of your ESA is contributions based/New style then this will continue and be deducted in full from any UC entitlement.

That’s very unlikely because reviews are still suspended. You will receive the LCWRA element from the start of your claim.

Hiya,I had my appointment at 2 today,luckily I happened to look at my journal around lunchtime because there was a message that I had to click a link for my commitments and that the appointment was cancelled! Unbelievable,if I didn’t look on the off chance I would have gone all the way down there,you couldn’t make this up,however I was happy about it 🙂

It's frustrating that it got cancelled, but as you say, at least you found out before you made the journey there!

That's highly unlikely. It's probably cancelled because they've had confirmation that you're in the Support Group for ESA. Your work commiments have been confirmed by you on your journal, that's really all that's needed.
