    I believe there are very big backlogs for Pension Credit applications at the moment.

    Have you tried ringing them?

    I've heard that claims are taking about 6 months. I'd advise you to ring them, if you can get through.

    I would encourage you to contact your MP to let them know. It's a complete shambles and many people simply cannot survive while they wait. 

    If you are one of those desperate for the PC I think you may be able to request an advance payment (although I don't know how they can do this without coming to some conclusion about likely entitlement).

    You may be able to get an advance on your first benefit payment if you’re in urgent financial need.
    You usually pay it back through your benefits. You do not have to pay interest.
    You can ask for an advance if you’ve recently applied for:
    • Pension Credit
    You’ll be told when you’ll be paid and how much. You’ll usually be paid on the same day or the next working day. It’ll be paid into your bank or Post Office account.

    Wow!!
    Ironically I cancelled our Pension Credit claim in February 2022 - it took effect within days and I lost one weeks payment which they used to set off against a debt I had with them.

    It seems that they are quick to close a claim yet slow to award one.

    Closing a claim is always a lot easier than making an award.

    But hearing that PC awards are taking up to 6 months to complete is ridiculous.
    Yet they take only a couple of days to close one and to calculate  any under or over payment involved.
    Surely they should be dealing with all post on a rolling basis in date order whether it is a new claim or an old one.
