Self Employed Earnings

Hello, I am trying to find out how self employed earnings are calculated.  I am in receipt of contribution based ESA and in the support group.  I have been doing permitted work for the past two years on a self employed basis.  Usually once a year I am asked to send in my accounts to DWP.

Due to the nature of the work I do I can have periods where no work is available, so for example this current tax year I did not earn in April, May or June.  I now have an opportunity to earn more than £152 per week for the next few months for less than 16 hours a week, can I take this opportunity?   Are self-employed earnings averaged out over the year?

Hope that makes sense!

Thank you for your help.

Good afternoon @TickTock my understanding is that you are correct and that the weekly amount is the average of earnings over a period of one year - in practice, normally the last year for which acconts are available.
