Hello everyone and hope you’re doing well.
I’ve searched but not been able to find anything so apologies if it’s been discussed.
Question is, do I declare my tax return to universal credit?
I know they know about it but what is the protocol?
Thank you

No. If you have relevant information which is not covered by RTI anyway then you should be reporting it to UC as it happens. There is no need to send a copy of the tax return. For self employment the basis of UC and tax returns are treated differently anyway.0

Thanks @calcotti
yes it was last year’s tax refund. I thought I may of had to declare, is it classed as income if it’s a tax refund.0 -
Yes you will need to tell UC about the refund and it will affect your UC in the assessment period in which it’s received. In your thread title you said “tax return” which is why Calcotti gave that advice.0

You asked about a tax return, the question about a tax refund is different. When you receive a tax refund you need to inform UC when you receive the refund. The refund will, if it relates to a year in which you were employed, be taken into account as earnings when calculating your UC for the month in which you receive the refund.0

@poppy123456 @calcotti yes apologies for mixup with words, the medication I’m taking frazzles my words/brain. Thanks for the info on UC, I will notify them. Have a good day0

You are welcome @AreTheySpiteful. It is the very least you deserve.
We can hear how the medication you are taking frazzles your words/brain and this caused you to mix up words. You don't need to apologise for this.
Please feel free to let us know how you get on and if you want any support in the meantime. We are all here for you and care about you1
