On the universal credit online in the things to do, need to fill the joint income per month since Jan 2021.
Question
1, is this gross or nett figure?
2, when the income for both has gone down to zero, why is this detail required?

1) Net
2) Because your past earnings affects whether or not you may be subject to the benefit cap.

Have you used a benefits calculator to check entitlement before you claim? It would be worth doing this because if there's no entitlement it will save you claiming. https://www.entitledto.co.uk/benefits-calculator/Intro/Home?cid=763a3799-bc5f-4a06-a6fc-4ffbc473e3f5 You need to put both your details in because it will be based on your joint circumstances. If you have savings/capital of more than £16,000 then you're excluded from claiming. For every £250 or part there of over £6,000 there's a £4.35/month deduction.I note from another thread your partner has a health condition. Unless they are in receipt of a disability benefit such as PIP or DLA then they can't be referred for a work capability assessment unless their earnings are less than 16 x NMW per week.

Hi Calcotti
question regarding past earnings is for someone who was in ICU with covid last year and suffered a massive stroke in there and is now paralysed and in a wheel chair. Can’t communicate and his wife is the carer looking after him and had to give up her job.
Hence their income is now zero.1 -
Not yourself and your family then. Wasn't mean to intrude but just wanted check if we were missing something that might affect the advice offered.lesamo said:Hi Calcotti

So he should be declaring his health condition supported by a Fit Note and his wife should be declaring she cares for him. Has he applied for PIP?0 -
Sorry for all the confusion. All of you are a great help and your answers are much appreciated. I am trying to help someone and never had to do this before in my life hence looking for all the advise and help to fill forms correctly.0

Has he applied for PIP?

Yes he is getting Pip and wife getting the carer allowance.
Nothing else at the moment as universal credit is still in the process.0 -
Good. The CA will be deducted from the UC but she will get the carer element. He will need to go through Work Capability Assessment and will hopefully get the LCWRA element after the four month wait.lesamo said:Yes he is getting Pip and wife getting the carer allowance.
Because she is a carer they are exempt from benefit cap anyway.0
