Hello I have just won on my tribunal for pip but I'm bit worried about my backpay which is due. I have been paying set up payments from my universal credit for debt for tax credits which I didn't know about? Can they take my back pay because of this? If anyone could help please.

Yes. However this will at least pay off or pay down the debt so that you stop having to make payments for it sooner.0

Congratulations how was your experience for the tribunal0

Yes I understand that but have been paying payments out of my universal credit for this. I don't even know how I even got the debt in the first place? Just could really do with back payment due to a lot of struggles at the moment. Wasn't entirely sure if this is the case of what usually happens.0

Thankyou asg23 it wasn't to bad actually. I was really nervous and nearly didn't bother but they were really lovely and wasn't as bad as I thought. I received letter from tribunal just 2 days after with result. I'm glad I did do it.2

That’s really good to hear
i am worried about mine read mixed reviews makes you nervous
i would definitely try calling tax credit/ Uc and determine where and why you owe money as I believe the pip money usually can take some time to come in so maybe use the time to see what exactly it is xx0 -
Once the back pay has gone to debt management team you could call them to see if they could agree to only take some of the back pay
I'm not saying they will but could be worth trying0 -
Yes asg23 I got myself in right state worrying about it but they were really nice and actually listened to everything I said. Its definitely worth trying as I found it lot better then the assessment. I hope all goes well for you.1

I can hear you feel stressed and worried at the moment @sharon5957 which sounds really difficult. Would anything, in particular, help this to feel more manageable for you at the moment?
We are all here for you if we can do anything to help, even if that's just listening. You don't have to face this, or anything else, alone if you don't want to0
