Missed deadline. Can they put in a mandatory reconsideration?

Hi all. A friend claims child dla and was due to have it renewed but missed the due date and sent in form late. They were refused. Can they put in a mandatory reconsideration or appeal re this due to a genuine mistake.

Were they refused because they returned the form late or just refused DLA award?
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

Can do an MR but will need to give good reason for late return.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Rules may be different in other parts of UK.

Being in hospital for a few days sounds really difficult @ricky1040. How is everything at the moment?

Hopefully, she will be able to get it sorted out soon. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to let us know if we can do anything to support  :)
