I was Tring to see if I can print the thread off.

I wanted to ask about my other half living with me and how it will affect my benefits when this happens.

So he's a carer but not working at the moment and we recently had a civil wedding but he's still at his mom's house and we're thinking about living together eventually.

He gets the lower rate PIP but I get the higher rate plus I get daily living allowance and housing benefit for my 1 bed flat which is a temporary accommodation but I've been accepted to bid for a permanent place which I'm in the process of doing but takes time.

My question
Can he move into my temporary accommodation in the e mean time until we move to my permanent flat. Will I get into trouble?
How will my financial situation change when he moves in?

And he wants to apply to be my carer. How does he apply this this post. I'm registered disabled and has a disabled badge so he'll use his car as my main mode of transport too.

Just explaining my concerns and worries so you understand better.

What benefits does he currently claim besides PIP? Besides housing benefit and PIP do you claim any other benefits yourself?

I can't answer the question about him moving into your temporary accommodation, i'm afraid. You will need to speak to your local Authority about that.

He only claims PIP that's all.

If you live together then he will need to claim UC with you. You will need to report a change of circumstances on your journal and tell them your partner is now living with you. You will then be sent a linking code to join both claims together. Entitlement will then be based on your joint circumstances. If they have savings/capital of more than £16,000 then you'll be excluded from claiming.

He will be able to claim carers element of UC if he looks after you for at least 35 hours per week.

Is there any reason why he's not claiming any other benefits at the moment other than PIP?

He's, not claiming any other benefits . I'm not sure of any reason why he's not claiming any other benefits than pip lower rate. He use to work as a carer but now he doesn't as he wants to move closer to support me in my disabilities.

Is there any other benefits he can claim?

Hi Chase I’d be very careful about moving your partner in with you as temporary Accomodation often has rules against this. Look at the contract you signed when you moved in if you have one.

However if you need a Carer living with you because of the needs of your disability you may be able to argue that denying them permission to live with you is disability discrimination.

Probably they will say that your Accomodation is not suitable for a couple or single-occupancy only. If it’s in a building with other single people, couples may not be allowed

What happens when they stay over? Who checks you are living alone? Maybe just don’t declare it for now and then put them on the tenancy agreement when you get your permanent home

I’m not sure how it’ll affect your PIP, usually your money goes down if you declare that you’re no longer single as your partners income will be taken into account when calculating your new joint entitlement as a couple

I think you can apply for carers allowance but your money might go down. There’s info about it here https://www.gov.uk/carers-allowance/effect-on-other-benefits

Im a volunteer Carer and don’t claim carers allowance as the person I’m Carer for will get less money if i claim it

Others will know more than me about all this but I thought I’d reach out and offer what I’ve learnt so far. Sadly, disabled people seem to be better off financially if we declare that we live alone and are single with no Carer support, under the current system

While he isn't living with you then the only benefit he can claim is UC. Does he live near to you now? When did he give up work?

Ok thank you for getting in contact and sharing the link.

I have a support worker from homelessness but she doesn't help much and often doesn't come I rely on my 5 lady friends to help me out.
NO one checks in but on my PIP report letter and entitlement section I'm allowed to have some daily support.
I'll look at my contract ok.
I can look at waiting first to report thus in my UC and also look at the disability discrimination part.

Where I live is a block of 42 flats not all are council flats.
So what I understand your saying is it's better if I don't do te carers allowance claim as yet and wait unil I move to my permanent flat then add the name to avoid any hassle.

Does that also means it's best he also doesn't use my address as his address for anything right now. Not to register a car which will he'll used for my blue badge to take me for doctors hospital appointments . Does it means he doesn't register this as his address as yet but kerp his address a his mom's address . Just wait first for my permanent home to fully come through first ?

I don't know what you mean by that. PIP isn't about the help you receive, it's about the help you need, regardless of whether you receive that help.

You don't need to register a blue badge to any vehicle because you can use it for yourself in any vehicle you travel in.

I wouldn't use your address for anything at the moment.

He gave up work on the 27th November 2022

Can he claim UC as well because I claim UC already?
