Hi Kim My son is a tetraplegia and can use the computer with a roller ball mouse. Do you know of any thing that could help him to write/lay down music compositions on the computer. Thank you

Hi mrsd62, the most popular piece of software to arrange and Compose your own music is called Sibelius. You can access this just using a mouse so your son should have no problem using a roller ball too.

You can see a tutorial on how to use it here, which shows that it is easy to access. It is available from amazon for around £90.

Is he wanting to lay down tracks of recorded music? Or samples? Or staff notation on the 5 lines with notes written out?

A cheap, lower spec version of Sibelius is

I use a rollerball and used Sibelius for years as a Music Teacher. I would suggest before you spend money on Sibelius have a go at musescore as the layout and entering music is very similar.

I now use musescore for writing arrangements for pupils, compositions etc. No, its not as high spec as sibelius but if your son is just starting out might be better to try Musescore. Good online community too
