I spoke to my GP today.

They’re keeping me off for another six weeks from my old job. I’ve been off 2 years now with mental health issues and non epileptic attack disorder.

My GP wanted to put me on maximum dose of antidepressants and now they’re giving me work related advice.

Go back to your old job working nights. It’s familiar and you’ll be less anxious. But let’s forget the fact I can’t leave the house without another person, or worse, I have a seizure or panic attack and find myself struggling.

Working nights is damaging for anyones mental health. But he says it would be better for me than a brand new place, brand new people etc - which I get. But how long can someone work nights. The DWP and disability employment advisor won’t offer me help me in my current job like they would if I was unemployed and offer me help with interviews and job coaches etc.

I’m so fed up I’m going to talk to the mental health team about sending my GP a letter about all this.

I'm so sorry that you feel so fed up.

I think sending a letter sounds like a good idea. I'm glad you have the mental health team to support you :)

I'd also like to ask if your job can make any reasonable adjustments for you to help you transition back into work, if and when you're ready to go back? I'm wondering if talking ahead about what they could do to benefit you may help you with this decision.
