The only problem with a grant for the advance payment is that you need to apply for the grant before you order your vehicle, as you probably already know.

I'm not aware of any other grants for this unfortunately. I wouldn't advise the loan shark option. Not all vehicles have long waiting lists, it depends on the make/model/spec.

I think the safest option will be to cancel the order and apply for the grant from motability.

I understand that but motability will not allow a grant for a vehicle you've already ordered. Do you have family that you could borrow some money from?

Hi there @liamcar1985 I'm sorry to hear about your situation, and thanks for reaching out. I've just moved your post over into our travel and transport category, so other members can more easily share their thoughts.

Unfortunately as mentioned, the grants Motability offer need to be in confirmed before you make an order:

"Please note that you cannot place an order for a vehicle until you have received your grant decision."

You could try searching on Disability Grants for potential financial help, I had a quick look at the 'grants for cars' section, and they only list Motability, but that's not to say you couldn't apply to a grant for 'independent living' for example.

Keep us updated with how things go if you can :)

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. It sounds like you are in a difficult position with your mobility car order and your finances.

There are a few options that you can explore to get some help:

    1. Access to Work: This is a government-funded scheme that provides support for people with disabilities who are employed or self-employed. They can provide grants for equipment or adaptations to help you do your job, including a mobility car. You can find more information on their website: https://www.gov.uk/access-to-work

    2. Disability Grants: There are a number of charities and organizations that provide grants to people with disabilities for various purposes. Some of these may include grants for mobility equipment or vehicles. You can use a website such as Turn2us to search for grants that you may be eligible for: https://www.turn2us.org.uk/

    3. Motability Scheme: While you mentioned that Motability was not able to offer you support, it may still be worth exploring whether there are any other options available through the scheme. You can contact them to discuss your situation and see if there are any solutions they can offer.
