Hi, I just recently received decision letter for pip, I have been awarded enhanced rate on both parts, I’m also on UC and LCWRA, my question is, am I entitled to severe disability premium, I live alone and don’t have anyone claiming carers allowance for me.
many thanks

LCWRA is part of UC and the Severe disability Premium isn't payable when claiming UC. It's only payable when claiming the old Income Related benefits such as ESA/JSA and Income Support. Therefore you won't be entitled to any of the disability premiums. If you're claiming UC as a single person and you're privately renting your home and you're under 35 then you'll be entitled to the 1 bedroom rate of LHA instead of the shared rate.

Why does the gov website and some other places say SDA only claimable as extension to 2001 claims? Is this inaccurate/misleading? My brother has had PIP (and DLA before that) for very long time alongside support group ESA but never had SDA. Also, he can recall getting it before 2001 (and Incapacity Benefit previously) and remembers being mystified when it was withdrawn/did not continue, and given explanations he did not at all understand when he enquired why. Any help appreciated.0

I might be getting SDA a bit mixed up with SD Premiums. It is the Premium he is not getting despite seeking eligible by being in receipt of income related ESA. (While also a fact ref sda non-continuation 2091 as described). He has had PIP (evolved from originally DLA) for the duration and no-one ever received CA.

That bit we didn't know. Thank you. But slightly confused with this https://www.gov.uk/disability-premiums/what-youll-get showing rates including for couples/if one of a couple across different levels DP, SDP, Enhanced.1

With the Severe Disability Premium (SDP), you have to be in receipt of income-related ESA, as in this case, together with the daily living component of PIP (or another qualifying benefit). For couples to be eligible, then both would need to meet the criteria for SDP. Please see: https://www.gov.uk/disability-premiums/eligibility

Appreciate advice that eligibility dependent on no other adults in household. Was a big gap in my awareness there. Thank you.1
