Hi I'm 57 and was born with spina bifida although it's only been in recent years that I've had to use walking aids and a wheelchair which I'm finding hard to take, maybe others have faced similar difficulties, or maybe not. I'm mostly isolated apart from the odd visit from my ex husband, it's complicated! I don't really have any hobbies or close friends, I really need to get a life now that I'm on my own again. I would love to hear from anyone

Hi and welcome to the community
I had similar experience at 50 became wheelchair bound 6 months after my husband walked out leaving me a single disabled mum
It was tough don't get me wrong and takes a long time to adjust
Try and focus on things you can do rather than what you can't
I did some online learning courses and colouring.and jigsaws to fill the time until I became severely vision impaired which put a stop to them
My life turned around when I was re homed
I am now engaged to a wonderful man and he takes me out as I can't go out on my own
Sorry this isn't about me I am just trying to give you hope things can get better
Take it one day at a time set yourself small achievable tasks
Speak to your gp about social prescribing service they can put you in touch with other services to help you

Hi @Goldilocksy - & welcome to the community from me too. I hope you'll find a lot of support from everyone here, & you could also try the following website to see if there are any activities in your area that might be suitable for you. Please see: https://www.ableize.com/disabled-groups-and-clubs-by-county/
As you will see there may be groups for wheelchair users. Your local council's website may also list different groups that may be a way forward in meeting other people.
