Can the council ask you to move?

Hi does anyone know if u have just moved to a council house but need a downstairs bedroom for disabled child as the stairs are to steep, can the council ask you to move or can u say u dome want to and apply for the adaptions extension

You can refer the child for a needs assessment from your local Authority. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/social-care-and-support-guide/help-from-social-services-and-charities/getting-a-needs-assessment/From there it will determine if there's any help/support available.As you've only just moved into the property didn't you consider the stairs before you moved in? The wait for a needs assessment could be quite a few months and then the wait after that could be several months, if they agree help can be given. It's not a quick process.
