I’m on esa income related , I’m trying to,ring them to ell them but can’t get through to anyone ! 11k or 12k will go straight on the car so I’ll have about £1000 left after I’ve paid a few bills . Hello @emz
Welcome to the community!Citizen's Advice have a page on income related ESA and it says:
I think the best thing to do would be to keep trying DWP, we've had many people on the forum struggle to get in contact with them at the moment. You could even ask Citizen's Advice too.If your total savings are:
- £6,000 or less, the DWP won’t take any money off your ESA
- over £6,000 and up to £16,000, the DWP will take money off your ESA – up to £40 each week
- £16,000 or over, you can't get income-related ESA

For Income Related ESA then once the money goes into your bank you'll need to report the changes to ESA. For savings of more than £16,000 all means tested benefits will stop. If any part of your ESA is contributions based then this will continue.
