    You are absolutely right. Profit above all else is what makes the business tick.
    Back in the 80's I had a few friends that bought poorly performing care homes on the cheap. They turned them around, not for the benefit of the residents but simply to increase the profit margins.
    They made quite a success of it, especially when the LA's were funding the residents - one ( a commander in the local fire brigade at the time) told me that it was like 'money for old rope'. Those that suffered were the staff (too few and poorly paid) and the residents who were offered little in way of comfort or outside life experiences. Bingo on a Friday night was the only entertainment offered.
