Can I get any halo with the cost of carpets as mine are becoming a trip hazard as they are old and unraveling and I'm scared of falling over

Hi @tracy1974, welcome to the community. I'm going to pop your post over to our Housing section so more people with the right experience can find it :)

Do you live in private or council housing? There might be some grants or funds that you can claim, but it will depend on a few different factors like your accommodation provider and whether you're claiming any benefits.

You can have a look at the household support fund from your local Authority. It’s not guaranteed but worth a try. Details here https://www.gov.uk/cost-living-help-local-council

Just to let you know a Council can’t go bankrupt or into liquidation, They can declare a Section 114 which means all further spending must be approved with the government and they are unable to commit to anymore spending.
Just to put your mind at ease on that one.

“ UK local authorities cannot go bankrupt. A section 114 notice simply indicates that the council’s forecast income is insufficient to meet its forecast expenditure for the next year.”

It’s not unusual for LAs to be short of funding later in the financial year. I’m not aware of any grants available for flooring but have a Google search for your local area.

Also sometimes flooring shops will sell end of line items cheaper have a look to see what’s available.
