New style ESA and getting a lodger

Hi, I’m new here!

I wonder if anyone knows the answer as I can’t seem to find anything about it online. I know with the old style income related esa you could only keep £20 a week…. I am in the support group of the the new style esa and I know that is contribution based so not income based.

i also get standard rate pip on daily and mobility but its just not enough to cover my outgoings. I live alone and have a mortgage and with everything getting more and more expensive it’s starting to be a real worry.

so basically, am I able to get a lodger and not lose money or not please? I don’t really relish the idea of sharing my home as I sleep loads and am set in my ways but needs must…. If it’s a possibility that is.

I know I will lose 25% discount on council tax and my bills will increase but it seems the only real way I might be able to make my money stretch.

Thank you ☺️
