How does SDP get backdated?

I am high rate esa and high rate pip, I have just had a severe disability letter saying that I may be entitled to it, I was just wondering if it gets backdated from my esa claim ( I think it was income support before that) or when I first claimed pip? Thank you

To be entitled to SDP your ESA must be Income Related or at least part Income Related. You must also live alone or be treated as living alone. No one must be claiming either carers allowance or carers element of Universal Credit for looking after you.It can be backdated to the date you became entitled to it.Do you live alone or with other adults?1

Yes, I meet all of the criteria, I was just unsure whether if I get backpayed if it would be from my pip claim or esa which I have received for a lot longer? Thank you poppy 😊0

Part of the criteria is you either need to be registered blind or claim a qualifying disability benefit such as PIP daily living or DLA mid/high rate care.0

Backdated to the date of when the PIP entitlement started (assuming you also have met the ESA side of it then as well).
