You have to do it via the post sadly
Only the 100% (aka free) tax can be done via post office

I got the car and paid 6 months' tax at full price.
when it is up for renewal will claim the half price and do it via post. it's pretty stupid that you cannot drive without the tax and you can only get the tax via post. I did email them and asked if there was another way but no one replied0 -
There's no other way of applying for the 50% reduction. You need to apply this way each time you renew it.0

Just received a refund for my other car tax and it's a cheque and I do not have a branch near me, Why not just refund into the account the money came out of?
They do not like to make it simple for people 😂0 -
Ha its there now. 😂0

If you use a banking app on a smartphone, some allow you to pay in cheques by taking a photograph of them. I haven't been to a branch in over 5 years but can still pay in cheques this way.
As for the 50% tax hassle...I still don't understand why they haven't simplified it after all the years it's been going. You can claim back half of what you paid by posting the form. When I looked into it last year, they were recommending that as they were so far behind it was taking months for postal tax to get through.1 -
