I'm on the email list for general community news from Hackney Borough Council. Today they sent out an email which carried the news that they are starting to migrate to Universal Credit. In the email, they stated that the following benefits will be affected:

  • Child Tax Credit
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)

I'm on ESA with Housing Benefit so I was wondering if it would apply to me. I looked at the government website and it said that only people on ESA who also receive Child Tax Credits will be affected at the present time.

There may be some people in Hackney wondering if they are affected, maybe this will help clear things up, if they see it.

Those that are claiming Income Related ESA will not be migrated to UC until at least 2028, unless they are claiming Tax credits. Or a change of circumstances prompts a move in the meantime.
