Very anxious about PIP Tellephone assessment on Wednesday

Hi - I have a telephone assessment with independent assessment services regarding my PIP review. I sent the review form back in November and I’m only just having the telephone assessment this week. I’m extremely anxious and nervous as when I called to ask if we could record the call I was told I have to tell the assessor and they may request a copy on a CD. I have know way of burning a CD so I don’t know how I can do this for the assessment company.

I’m really confused as to why I need a telephone assessment as I’m unfortunately in much poorer health than I have ever been and I’m mainly bed bound and can only sit for a small amount of time. Obviously we put this all on the review form but they still want a telephone assessment. I did ask for a longer award of five or ten years as my physical disability will only deteriorate with age so I wonder if that’s the reason for the assessment?

I have been on DLA then PIP since about the age of eighteen and now after sixty operations find the whole PIP and ESA assessments extremely stressful and can’t see why I need an assessment.

Maybe I’m just overthinking it and hopefully, it will be ok and I will be able to stop worrying about it.

Sorry to ramble on.

Kind regards - Andrew

You will not need to provide a copy of the recording for them. You can record it yourself and it will be for your purpose only. Yes, you will need to tell the assessor you’re recording it at the start of the assessment.

Most people have assessments so it’s not surprising you need one too. Paper based assessments are still rare, though possible, if you have enough relevant information in the form.

During the assessment try not to answer any questions with just a yes or no and try to give as much detail as possible. The assessment can last any where from 20 to 120 minutes, sometimes longer.

Once the report is returned a decision can take up to about 12 weeks.

Thank you. Just wish it wasn't such a stressful and long winded process. I'm going to try and not stress about it.

Yes, I know that feeling. I'm currently going through a review myself and returned my form last November. I received 2 text messages since I returned it and nothing since 7th March.

Hopefully you should hear something soon. When I rang to enquire as to when I might get an assessment a few weeks back they said it would be in the next two -three months but then the next week I got a text with an appointment on it.
