An Experience of Rail Replacement Services
I just thought I'd share this short saga.
The long & short of it. I was travelling from Telford with the missus to a show in London Excell.
Journey down was fine. And the Holiday Inn Camden Lock gave us a great room with a view over the hotel, good wet room etc.
Public transport on the whole good. Some crowded buses, but the driver turfed prams off for us on occasion.
The 'new' Elizabeth line was great too. Helpful staff at Farringdon
Coming back. Got as far as Bham New Street, our regular change..
Put on the train to finish the trip. No trains leaving from here. Got off the train. Turns out heavy rain had caused a major landslide up the line.
Half expected to be put in a taxi, but no.
So we were put on a train to Wolverhampton, sat in the accessible waiting room (seemingly also used for storage boxes!)
'There's a coach , it's got a lift!' Umm OK.
So we go over to the coach. Driver spends 20 mins trying to get the lift to work. (turns out it needs to NOT be over a manhole cover and be level).
Moves the coach a few metres, everyone cheers when the missis is finally on the coach.
If you've never used on, those lifts are more like a forklift truck, open with rails!
Then she has to do a 90 turn once in the coach with the door still open, about 6 foot up!
Finally we do eventually get back to Telford & home.
Anyone else had some memorable smooth journeys, or delays!
