Hello everyone,

Sorry to come straight in with a question. I recently had to claim UC due to a change of circumstances as my partner moved in to my home. We have completed the application being able to confirm his id online but unfortunately mine I could not. We both have a message now, of, we will call you. Small background I'm on esa support group & pip he works full time. Now my question is, is it normal to get the we will call you? Statement. These benefit claims always cause me a lot of anxiety & my partner cannot cope well in these situations. So if it's normal I can relax a bit.any advise is appreciated.

    Yes, it’s normal to have that message.

    As you are in the Support Group for ESA you’ll be entitled to the LCWRA element of UC from the start of your claim.

    It may take a few weeks for ESA to send your details across to UC. In the meantime put a message onto your journal and tell them you are in the Support Group. They may ask you to provide a fit note but this isn’t needed so please ignore that.

    Have you used a benefits calculator to check entitlement to UC?

    Thank you for your response, I can relax a little now.

    Yes I used turn2us & got advice from citizens advice. Both have us entitled to a small amount but every little helps

    I would say that this UC claim process seems quite convoluted, it's no wonder people don't bother to migrate. All very stressful the citizens advice don't tell you that.

    The most frustrating part for me is that UC are always unaware that you were claiming ESA prior to claiming UC. This means that there's usually a delay in them updating your claimant commitments to reflect the LCWRA element. As they are unaware of this, the standard procedure is for the system to ask you to provide a fit note, even though it's not needed.

    This applies whether it's managed migration or natural migration for people like yourself that are claiming due to a change of circumstances. I would have thought that with managed migration they would at least have those details but apparently not.

    Once ESA send your details across your journal will be updated and there should be any further issues.

    Are you claiming a disability benefit such as PIP/ADP daily living or DLA mid/high rate care?

    Yes I get pip at standard rate for both.i have had the phone call & now have a standard id appointment on Friday. Hopefully that will all go accordingly.

    My partner is very nervous having never set foot in a job centre before he seems to think it will be like a torture experience with bright lights & trick questions.

    Ive said you have a list of things to take just give them to the lady & answer anything honestly.

    Has your partner reported being your carer? If not then they should do that and your UC will include the carers element. There’s no earnings limit to carers element like there is with carers allowance.

    As a carer they will have no commitments.

    Although working full time they would be in the light touch group even without carers element. I would expect the appointment at the job centre to be very short and sweet.

    Thank you that's so reassuring my partner is tying himself in knots & yes citizens advice did say to include him as my career.

    We have a long list of proof of housing we have to take but he only moved in properly Saturday so bills not updated yet. Hopefully one of them will update prior to Friday. 🤣🤣
