Hi, My son has autism, I'm receipt of full enhanced pip, 18. He is going onto supported internship. Unfortunately we can't apply for bursary as my husband earns too much but wondered if there is anything available we can apply for.

Hi @R4becca5chloe6 and welcome to the community.
I'm sorry to hear you can't apply for a bursary. Have you looked into Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) at all? There's some information here which might be useful.

Thank you hugely for that. I thought there might be something else I could apply for but couldn't remember what it was. The student finance people have been quite helpful and said fill out the form anyway and they can see what he is eligible for so I will look at both. Alex

It's difficult when you earn a bit too much but then it does still make a difference especially when he can't use public transport himself etc! And it's good for him to use canteen to get a meal! It can all add up. Alex

Not a problem at all @R4becca5chloe6 always happy to help. 😊

I can empathise with not being able to use public transport, that's also my autistic kryptonite! Which is a shame, as I know people on PIP can get money off train tickets and bus tickets.

I'm hoping some of the community with have some other top ideas for places to contact soon. 😊

We also have disabled rail person card. It's just remembering all the benefits he can have.

I have to say, being able to break a Toughbook is quite the talent haha.

Yeah they don't make it too obvious what people are entitled to unfortunately. I'm still learning what you can get. Hopefully others will have some input soon. 😊
