Hi, my name is bigbird57! Migrating to UC, am I worse off?
hello , I am really panicking here , and I don’t understand this universal credit rubbish ,I had a migration letter from income support to change over to universal credit , in which I did on Monday,
I went to local job centre and asked for help and did the forms
My income support I got 356.40 a fortnight so £712.80 as I am disabled myself and I am full time carer for my Down syndrome daughter (and get the servere disablement payment ) but I’m sure according to universal credit calculated I will get I think £580 so I’m sure I am worse off. Is it me or is it another way for the government to cripple us more xxx thank you for the rant

It's you and your calculation is not correct. You've forgotten to include Transitional Protection in with your payment, which will make sure you're not worse off when you migrate across.
Are you claiming for help with the rent? If so then your UC will include housing element, standard allowance, carers element and Transitional Protection.
Your carers allowance will be deducted in full, just as it is for your Income Support. Carers allowance will continue to be paid as normal.
Your Income Support and housing benefit (if you claim that) will continue to be paid for 2 weeks and then stop.
Council Tax reduction will be recalculated based on your UC entitlement, if you claim this.

poppy123456 thank you for your message , I know I filled out the housing thing but I know on my income support I didn’t pay council tax as me and my daughter are both disabled , and I am her appointee
The old way was so much easier. Lol

You're welcome. Help with the rent through UC is known as housing element.
