Housing benefit
Morning all I have have finished my claim for universal credit, to keep receiving income support and housing benefit, but I have been asked for a signed tenancy agreement from my landlord that I also must sign I don't have this and my landlord is on holiday, I have disclosed all his details, would a bank statement confirming payment of rent to my landlord be acceptable, it all seams to be a bit of a fuss, as all they needed to do was contact my council who have been paying housing benefit for 8 years thank u in advance

Do you have any form of tenancy agreement or rent increase letter? I don't think they'll accept the bank statement for this as they need something with the landlords name & address on it.

Hi no I don't, I only thought of bank statement as it has his name on it, and account details and I can't think of any better proof, the fact I have confirmed his address and phone number surely they can just ring him, as what is the point in supplying phone number of landlord

Unfortunately it is always the claimants responsibility to provide the proof, not UC's responsibility to chase it.
You are welcome to ask if they'll accept a bank statement, but I think you'll just have to wait until he can provide you with a copy of the tenancy agreement.

Hi Jon7777777 I changed over recently all I had to do to prove my rent to uc was to contact my housing officer who checked her system for the code from uc to confirm my housing costs and that was it sorted instantly.

If its that easy I can't understand why they make it complicated, indicates the systems are talking together

As they had a Housing Officer, that will be for council or Housing Association. It may not work for private rental. I will be interested to hear the outcome. 🙂
