If I request APA Will it now mess my UC payments up

hi al
Hope everyone is ok. I was just wondering as I have received my first UC payment today (finally) if I was to now request an APA to be paid fortnightly would it mess my UC payments up going forward?
thanks in advance

I forgot to add that I also want them to pay my rent directly to my local authority too

An APA is not paid fortnightly. It's paid twice a month and your UC payment will be split into 2 payments. The worst part about the APA is when you first request it you have a longer wait for your full payment because your next payment will only be for half your usual monthly payment and you would have waiting a whole month for that. The other half would be paid around 2 weeks later depending on your assessment period dates.
You can ask for them to pay your landlord directly by putting a message onto your journal under the payment section.

It will mean you receive your next payment of UC on your usual date but it will only be for half the amount you usually get, and then the next payment will be 14-17 days later.
If you are having your rent paid directly, that will be paid to your LA on your original payment date each month.

Ah no worries at all. I've done the same myself many times.

Thank you both! I think I’ll leave my payment date as it is, because I still get my contribution based new style ESA (if that’s what it’s called now, I can’t remember 😬) but put a request in for my rent to be paid directly to my landlord. Silly question, but it’s all new to me this, and thank god for you guys who help us all with your knowledge and advice, do I need to put my reasons why too?
Thanks in advance

Ah yes, New style ESA payments will be fortnightly as you've always received your ESA but with a slightly less payment amount. That can certainly help to budget a little easier, for sure.
For your rent being paid straight to your LL just tell them something like, you find it difficult to manage your money due to your health conditions and would prefer it to be paid straight to them.
I'm my daughters appointee for her UC and when I claimed for housing element for her for the first time at the start of the year, I didn't even have to ask for it to be paid straight the landlord, it was part of the questions they asked when I claimed it. Her payment date for UC is 24th of every month and her rent is paid on that date every single month, without fail.

Thank you Poppy, tbf this is all very true, I have zero idea how to budget, I’ve got a 3.5cm meningioma that’s getting surgically removed in Jan, depression, anxiety, ptsd, self harm, fibro which all impact my mental ability and I have council tax arrears and water rates arrears (numerous other debts also) and I so desperately cannot get into rent arrears and risk losing my home.
I do wish that came up when I did my migration application. I would have 1000000% have said yes!
I’ll pop a note on my journal now, and once again, thank you so much!0 -
You're welcome. I don't know if that question automatically appeared for my daughter because I'm her appointee, that could be the case. There shouldn't be a problem in them paying your LL directly.

Thank you for your help Poppy I’ve received a reply 😊😊
“ I have actioned for your rent to be issued directly to your landlord this will be actioned in your next assessment period”1 -
That's awesome that it will be actioned so quickly. That's one less thing to worry about. You're welcome, as always. 😊
