Hi, my name is WiccaMama!
Hello. I am DWP appointee for my Autistic LD Son. He receives UC and he cannot manage his own finances , dwp know this , so all his benefits get paid to me and i manage his money for him.
i do not get benefits.
My husband works full time and i get carers allowance.
My Son’s UC goes into my account and i give him money to spend weekly and pay all his expenses for him with his money.
As i do not have power of attorney ( too complicated a process) , the bank wont let me have access to his account , so it was agreed that it would be my account his money goes into.
My own money obviously goes in too , as does my husband’s wages as ge too is very bad with money.
The DWP said i could do this as they have my details , but now i am being asked to provide four months statements. I have to provide proof of where his money goes.
i just manage his money for him as i was advised to. I also have to provide either a passport or drivers licence for him. He has neither. He only has his blue badge.
i was under the impression that i could manage his money.
DWP had an appointee appointment with me and i also had to provide the proof when i did his UC face to face interview on his behalf when i first applied for UC for him.
They were fine with me doing this and didn’t say i could not.
now i am terrified i have done something wrong.
i have managed his pip for years too.
nobody has ever said i couldn’t.
i opened a joint account with him so i could send over cash so he could access money if he was at college , respite or out with a support worker.
he has no comprehension of the value of money. He is extremely vulnerable.
He received a motability good condition bonus and i gave it to him as a way of trying to help him learn about money.
He spent the entire lot on a bottle of aftershave.
He didnot understand it was all his money.
He had it for less than 5 mins.
This , and countless other reasons is why i am appointee and manage his money , appointments and care.
I rang DWP they said i cannot talk to them and to use his journal , which i manage for him too.
Could anybody advise , please.
i only manage his money , i have my own.
thank you for reading.

Hi @WiccaMama and welcome to the community.
Please don't worry, you won't have done anything wrong as long as you're using his money for him and his needs. UC are looking into lots of people's claims and asking for bank statements. It won't have been triggered by anything wrong that you've done.
In terms of ID here's a list of what they'll accept. Having looked online it seems you can use a Blue Badge as photo ID, but if not, they should ask for more evidence from the other evidence lists.
