Pip award, paper assessment.

Hi everyone, i'm new here and could do with some advice. I have been awarded PIP this week, a first time award. I don't want to appear ungrateful but today i phoned the help line to see if i could find out what i have been awarded. I must admit, i was disappointed to find out i'd been awarded standard mobility only. I only had a paper assessment which consisted of an out of the blue 15 minute call from a pip assessor and then an award text a week later. I was hopeful for an award of daily living as i really do struggle and feel i proved this with my application. I have requested a copy of the assessors report and hope that arrives in the next week or so. Am i right in thinking that given that i had a paper assessment then i might have grounds for appeal. I don't want to go down a MR route if it's possible that they might take the standard mobility part away but i do also feel that i should of been awarded daily living. I've also seen on various forums that many people who get paper assesments tend to be awarded a higher amount. Many thanks for any advice.

Any decision can be challenged. The first step to that is the Mandatory Reconsideration. (MR) You can’t appeal the decision without going through that first.
Paper based decisions can lead to any award and I have known others to be awarded just standard mobility from this.
You should put the request in writing stating where and why you think you should have scored those points. The most likely outcome of the MR will be the decision remains the same. More chance at Tribunal stage providing you either appear in person or have a telephone hearing.

Thank You. You've actually made me feel better by stating that you know of others who have been awarded standard mobility on paper assessment. I think the problem is that there are a lot of forums out there that state that paper assessments mean a higher award. So i did get my hopes up. Thanks for your reply, i shall wait for the report and take it from there.

Heya @Ziggy123 and welcome to the community. 😁
I can see Poppy has already given you the answers you need. But I just wanted to say hi and best of luck with the next steps. I'm currently awaiting a PIP MR. I know it can be stressful, but it's usually worth it in the end. 😊
