hello I’ve been off on universal credit for 2 years with constant sick notes. The recently sent me a work assessment form and then for an assessment. Today they have wrote to me to confirm LCRWA has been awarded.

When does the backdate or the claim start as only filled form in 3 months ago as was never asked before.

just curious if it goes from the start if illness or from form going in?

    Hi there @dekka1410 and welcome to the community. 😊

    Usually a Work Capability Assessment should be triggered after 3 months of handing in fit notes, so I'm unsure as to why it took 2 years for you to have one.

    LCWRA is usually paid after a 3 month assessment period (from when you had the WCA), but with so long handing in your fit notes, I'm unsure what would happen here. Hopefully one of our wonderful community will be able to give a solid answer soon.

    That's not quite correct. The waiting period starts from when you provided your first fit note, not from when you have the assessment.

    Are you saying this is your very first work capability assessment? If so what date exactly did you provide your first fit note? what date do you usually receive your money each month?

    Did you continue to provide fit notes the whole time without any gaps?

    started providing sick noted march 2022 always had one in date.

    Claim was suspended July 2023 for one week which fell over two periods due to being send to prison on remand. All charges subsequently dropped.

    They wrote to me asking for access to my GP I refused blanket access and advised them I’ll discuss with the work capabilities team in June 2023

    Nothing ever came of this and my claim was reactivated and amendments made to cover housing for the period I was incarcerated.
    I received a work assessment paperwork July 2024 and completed they called me in and I was awarded it today.

    My usual date for payments is 28th of each month

    Without knowing the exact date you provided that first fit note I can't tell you exactly when it's paid from.

    It would be potentially July or August 2022.

    If you have access to a journal then you'll see the date you provided it on there.

    Poppy see below,


    8 June 2022 - first sick note provided

    19 June 2023 - they asked for access to my medical records - refused

    25 June 2023 - refused consent to gp access

    28 June 2023 - they had made the referral for workplace assessment

    21 July 2023 - I was remanded in prison for 7 days- all charges dropped


    28 July 2923 - released from a prison


    June 2024 - completed the assessment and handed it in to jobcentre


    October 2024 attended medical

    16 October - awarded LCWRA

    So because I had a break I claim do you think it would be awarded or just from August 2023? Or could they not backdate it?
