PIP-MOTABILITY

Good evening all
my son has just been awarded PIP,i don't know yet if it's high rate or low rate, however i see you can get a car on high rate PIP ,so if he has got the high rate, then a new car would be nice, but i work 16 hrs a week .and use my own car to get to work..then i go shopping after work,i get my son some shopping aswell as my own,and i collect his prescriptions for him but i've read that the disabled person has to be with you at all times..can i use the motabilty allowance for a car on finance?.,or do the same rules apply….atm i have a 2007 matiz, which is not very reliable.to get him out and about so we only do short journeys, like for when he wants his hair cutting or taking him shopping.

To join the Motability scheme your son will need Enhanced Mobility, standard mobility doesn't qualify for the scheme. You can't join the scheme through any finance, it has to be part of the PIP claim. This is because the PIP mobility payments will be paid to Motability for the vehicle because you exchange them for a vehicle.
The disabled person doesn't have to be with you for every journey. As long as the journey you're making is for the disabled person then it will be fine.
Of course you need to wait to see what award he has first. If it is Enhanced mobility then I'd advise you to contact mobility itself and they will be more than happy to give you all the advice you need, they are extremely helpful.

Thank you for your help
I'll await the letter then and see what he is entitled to and call the them if he's allowed motability
