SDP

Hi all

I’ve been awarded SDP after being told for some time I was already getting it in my RSA (I was not)

Does anyone know the process to claim the back pay? They have currently only backdated it three weeks. I have been entitled to from an eligibility point of view since 2019.
I have tried looking on here but couldn’t find a thread.
Thank you

Thank you do I have to telephone the DWP ? Or is there a form I will need to fill in?

I clicked the link you added and that is for ESA not SDP, do you think the process may be different or the same?

SDP is not a benefit on its own. It's a disability premium added to your Income Related ESA. When you claimed the SDP did you ask for it to be backdated to when you first qualified? If not then you need to ring ESA and ask them.

    Hi

I didn’t I wasn’t aware I had to specifically ask for it to be backdated. It’s only since I applied that people have told me that it should be backdated to when I claimed the ESA and PIP. I had a benefit calculator done and they told me.
Thank you so much for your help I guess I’ll have to call and request a back dated payment.

Come to think of it, when I called about it they told me I’d get an assessment phone call but I never did, I just got a text message saying three weeks backdated had been paid into my bank and then a letter saying it would be paid with my ESA fortnightly. I never actually had a chance to speak to anyone, the person in the phone just said he’d send the referral.

There's no assessment for SDP. The criteria is that you need to have lived alone or be treated as living alone and no one must be claiming either carers allowance or carer element of UC for looking after you.

It’s very confusing Poppy he actually said ‘you’ll get a phone call in 3-4 weeks to assess your claim’ I must have misunderstood, but that’s normal for me with my brain fog and anxiety.
It’s giving me anxiety to call again to try to sort the backdated sdp payments. I’ll have to see if someone can be here when I telephone.
Again thank you 👍🏻 I appreciate your patience explaining it to me.
