Sofa surfing.

Hi, I’m officially homeless and sofa surfing. Someone I know offered me their sofa in Kent which I accepted. I got in touch with the job centre and asked if I could reschedule my appointment as I wouldn’t be able to attend. They asked why and I told them what county I would be in and they have now asked me to change from the registered job centre (Wiltshire) to Kent, but I’m only in Kent for a short time, is that correct?

While in Kent, even temporarily, you must continue to meet your claimant commitment. If this includes meetings with your work coach, you will either need to attend in person and travel to Wiltshire, or change your registered jobcentre to one that is more convenient for you. You may request telephone appointments, but please note that these are not guaranteed and the request does not have to be accepted. Are you receiving help with housing?

Hi Emilee, I’ve registered as being homeless with Wiltshire council, but I’ve been told they have a 12 week backlog of claims and I’ve heard nothing from them since.
