Hi all

On I go to the next benefits journey 😢

My husband is coming to the end of his SSP in 3 weeks time (16/12). I applied on his behalf to ESA on the 11/10 as was advised it had to be within three months of his SSP running out and received a text with a link to upload his sick not however when I was on the phone to the DWP, I told them that his current sick note would not expire until 30/11 so was told to upload it on the link when I have the new one ….easy peasy.

However, knowing the past few months is anything but easy when claiming benefits, my question is will he automatically start receiving from the 17/12 as I had been advised or is it going to be another uphill battle of waiting months ?

He is also on LCWRA and enhanced pip, both daily and mobility although I am aware the latter is separate from UC.

Many thanks as always

    Hi @Loumc48

Going off my recent experience which is a similar situation to your husband, I was receiving LCWRA with UC, my ssp ended on the 27th Sept(week 28).

I applied for Newstyle Esa on the 15th July , sent fit notes via the link as you have done, and my 13 week esa assessment started on the 27th Sept. I received a part assessment payment of £77.58 the following Wednesday 2nd Oct ,and then paid £181.00 every 2 weeks. I have just received my assesment decision letter last week stating I have been placed in the support group so the money increases to £138 per week paid every fortnight but only increases after the 13th week of your assessment start date.

So for me that's a few weeks earlier than the 13 week wait. Once he has been placed in that he no longer needs to submit fit notes. He won't need to complete another work capability assessment as he has already done so with UC.

    Hope that helps

    Hi @berry61

Thank you so much . That makes a lot of sense but I was told not to submit his current sick note as it would cover the date that he actually finishes his SSP so does that mean his will be delayed ? UC have obviously had his sick notes up until he was granted LCWRA and I’m on carers allowance so they are leaving me alone ( not sure if that’s relevant )

I really appreciate the help with this. I’m also not working as had to give up my job to be his carer after a horrific accident so really clueless about all of this. Thank goodness for this site though. It’s got and continues to get me through all of it!

    Thank you again

    Your welcome @Loumc48

I'm not experienced enough to give an answer to that as I myself have received some very good help from people on this forum.

I've Looked back at my Dwp text messages and I sent in the fit note that I had at that time on the 3rd Oct after being told to send it by a Dwp telephone help desk person. That fit note covered me past my ssp end date anyway, once my esa started from the 27th Sept i received text messages from dwp saying my current fit note is due to end on such a date please send another or your payments could be stopped. It is a pain having to keep sending them in when you have been awarded lcwra, but it is the assessment period of 13 weeks that everyone has to complete.

    Thanks

ahh ok @berry61 thanks. I will call them tomorrow . The text I got in October was to upload the sick note and he would hear in 14 days but being told not to upload until we have the sick note that covers the start of the period next month makes me wonder if I was given the correct info. Anyhow, appreciate all your help and hope you are doing ok
