Hi, my name is Martin123! Can I still get carer's allowance if my son is in a different ESA group?

hi all, I’m hoping for some advice. I am appointee for my adult son, I receive carers allowance and have done since he was little. He gets PIP higher rate and until September last year was in the work activity group for ESA, we had a face 2 face last year and now he is in the support group. I’m just wondering if I am still allowed to get carers allowance now he has moved groups. The components for the payments are living expenses, disability income guarantee and extra money as in support group. I hope someone can help, I’ve tried phoning them many times but difficult to get through.

Hi,
Yes, you are still allowed to get Carers Allowance for him as it's the PIP award that matters for this.
If any part of the ESA is income based then he will be migrated to Universal Credit at some point this year. Again, you can still claim CA for him if that happens.
