Hi @kurstie and welcome to the online community!
I can see @Kimmy87 has provided a few useful links. I've also added one to your local council for support with essential household items which I think might be helpful.
Help with essential household items - Lancashire County Council
I hope you don't mind but I've made a slight adjustment to your post title, just to make it easy for others who might have some advice to locate. I hope that's ok. 🙂
Best wishes,
Holly.

Hello kurstie and welcome to Scope 😊
First of all, congratulations on your move. Settling in anywhere can take a while, especially on a tight budget. Staying warm right now is a priority so I suggest laying thick cardboard (from large boxes) on your floors for now.
Freecycle regularly offers rugs, new carpet offcuts or used carpet tiles, usually by collection only but some people will deliver for a small fee.
Almost any household item or furniture you could want is advertised on Freecycle and it's all free.

Thank-you so much for recommending this

You can also post "Wanted" messages in any district.
Caution must be used when replying to anyone's message. I have never given my phone number and address to the same person for example. I once met someone on the corner of my road and they carried the heavy item to a lift on the ground floor then I made sure he left the building.
Luckily, I have communal entrances so nobody could guess which property I live in.
Freecycle encourages you to report any dodgy messages or encounters.
