Career allowance
Morning,
A friend of mine is caring for her boyfriend. His applying for PIP.
My friend is in receipt of UC if she was to get carers allowance monthly from PIP would this affect her UC and housing benefit claim?
Thanks everyone

Carers Allowance would be deducted in full from her UC award, so no financial gain in claiming.
If she doesn't have LCWRA in her name, she could claim Carers Element under UC if he is awarded PIP.
It would reduce any Transitional Protection she may have.

Hi ,
Thank you, does it matter if she doesn’t live with her boyfriend.
Thanks

No it doesn't matter. To be clear the PIP award must include the daily living part.

Morning DD,
If your friend receives Carer’s Allowance, it will affect her Universal Credit. The allowance is counted as income, reducing her UC payment. Housing Benefit could also be impacted, depending on her total income. It's advisable to inform DWP about changes and check a benefits calculator for specifics.
Best,

As they are claiming UC they would only be claiming housing benefit if they either lived in supported or temporary housing. Otherwise help with the rent is paid through UC known as housing element.
Kimmy did advise that carers allowance would be deducted in full from any UC entitlement.
