Will me claiming carers element effect my mums benefits?
I hope someone can help! I’m new here..
I’m currently out of work but have just applied for carers element on UC as I care for my mum every day!
She receives the higher rate of attendance allowance.
Will me claiming carers element have any effect on the amount she receives?

Hello @Sair1976, it would depend on whether she receives SDP in with any of her other benefits. Do you know if she claims pension credit or housing benefit, or any other benefits at all?

She doesn’t get any other benefits.
just the higher rate of attendance allowance. I didn’t know if this was classed as sdp? This is all very new to us!

Hello @Sair1976, so long as she's not receiving pension credit or housing benefit, she should not be impacted by you claiming the carer element for caring for her. Her AA won't be impacted.
