You can apply for a 50% reduction if you get standard mobility, or free car tax if you get enhanced mobility.

Hi everyone, This is a copy of a message just written in what is probably the wrong place. I am still finding my way around so my apologies. I have recently swapped cars because my walker wouldn't fit into the previous car. The process of taxing a vehicle these days can all be done online if you pay but if you have a Blue Badge and are exempt, you MUST go physically to a Post Office with relevant documents. So you pay for road tax in order to drive your car to a P.O., then you can claim a refund. Dealing with disability itself and the ever-closing Post Office branches, this seems absurd. How on earth can this be fair?

Hi, it's LuciaMalta again. I wrote the above in early March having bought the car in Feb '25. Yesterday, I finally got to a post office with what I thought were the correct documents to change the Tax Class to disabled/exempt on my replacement car. They were unable to process it because I did not have a "Certificate of Entitlement" for the Enhanced rate of PIP. I never knew there was such a document and have no idea how to get one. There are so many depts., at DWP or DVLA or Government websites. My previous car was classed as exempt with enhanced PIP. Can anyone advise me please?

Sadly, our PO is closing in September, too, so at this rate, I need to get it sorted…

    Thank you
