edited March 10 in Universal Credit (UC)

Hello,
I currently claim Universal credits and managed to get LCWRA in December last year, I am really scared I’ll be forced to work with these upcoming announcements. I heard there’s a green paper due this month, how long does that take? How long do you think
It will take for any changes to be put into place? Can the government just take mine off me? I’m so scared I can’t stop throwing up and panicking, I can’t eat or sleep and I’m scared 😭 any help is appreciated and thank you x

They can't fast track the legal process.

They were able to change the Winter fuel payment criteria so quickly because it was a government perk, not protected by legislation as welfare benefits are.

This month it's expected that a Green Paper will be released.

Green Paper: These are our plans, what do you think.

    Consultation and feedback.

Then they release a White Paper.

White Paper: These are our proposals

Then the long legal process, going through both houses of parliament, delayed by any court challenges, amendments proposed by the House of Lords.

    Then they finally become law.

The whole process takes years, and what eventually becomes law is usually a watered down version of the Green paper.

Politicians often talk the talk but their words can be picked apart as factually incorrect very easily. What they say sounds good for the media but doesn't bear any scrutiny.

I’m not sure how to reply to you so leaving another comment, will I be required to look for work after April? I saw they are ‘deploying’ 1000 work coaches to help 65,000 people? How long does the green paper and white paper take? I’m worry for going on, if I can’t pay my mum rent she’ll kick me out :( I’m so scared x

Please settle down. It takes a very, very long time for legal processes to work their way through the system so there'll be no change to your life for a very long time yet (if ever)

More concerning that your Mum will kick you out! Mums say things all the time without meaning them. Have you actually had a conversation with her?

Does she know you're this worried?

Hello, thank you and yeah she knows, and she’s tried to before but I managed to secure enough money in rent to stay here for now. It’s a long story but we don’t get on at all, she just hates me and things I should be working despite my daily struggles :( do you know how long the green and white papers take? Thank you for the comment x

I don't exactly know how long but there needs to be a consultation process and there will be all kinds of legal challenges, I'm sure.

Nothing happens fast with these things

I really doubt your Mum hates you, though it might feel that way!
