Removing an appointee

This is a query on behalf of a friend who doesn't use the internet.
His son is his appointee and he now feels able to handle his affairs on his own would removing his son as an appointee affect his claim ? (in terms of how much help is needed etc) or would it not ?
My advice is you can always remove him and ask for help if you need it but I thought I would ask people who know more.
