If someone moves from NS ESA to UC will they need to be reassessed?

Hello,

Would they need to be reassessed if they apply anew and if not can their Support Group status be automatically applied?

I’m asking for a family member. He’s been missing out on the higher amount of LCWRA for a while but he’s reluctant to do another assessment.

Thanks.

It wouldn't be a move from NS ESA to UC.

When you get both it's known as a dual claim.

He would be on NS ESA with UC topping up his income.

Support Group for NS ESA means he'd get LCWRA automatically, although it can take a few weeks to confirm it's generally done in time for the first time payment.

No need for medical assessment, Fit Note etc.

His NS ESA will be deducted in full from the UC award.

Currently as a single person I get £809.64 awarded in UC (Standard Allowance +LCWRA), then a full month deduction for NS ESA is £598.86. Leaving £210.77 of UC in payment (plus my Housing Element).

That’s good to know he can just apply and both will be open at the same time and that he won’t need another assessment.

I’ll let him know. Thank you.

Do they backdate the LCWRA to the time you were awarded Support Group if he applies for UC?

No, in exceptional circumstances they will consider back dating for one month, but no longer.

Do you have a link to that please? It would be good to see if he fits in that.

Thank you. If any of those apply then he can get it? He has a disability so here is hoping.

Beyond what is written on the link I can't answer further, the decision is down to UC.

I’ll mention to him to mention that to them though. Thank you.
