WHO WILL BE TARGETTED FOR REASSESSMENT ON UNIVERSAL CREDIT

I have heard some discussion of particular groups being targetted for reassesment on Universal Credit such as those who received it because of difficult pregnancies and cancer diagnoses. Does anyone know who else has been mentioned as being targetted and where this is talked about in the Green Paper

To be honest, I've been reading so much, I can't remember exactly where it was. I just read the obr report suggested certain groups be targetted first for reassessment first. There must be a massive backlog of people to reassess, after all that time with no assessment

I have found it now. The person referenced this in the Green Paper. Also section 113. It looks like they have will have a massive backlog as they mention WCA reassessments and "building up capacity to do so." Also, I thought I read the reassessment were due to start in April 2026 but some think it is immediately. Do you know about this?

What's the difference between long term sick and disabled. My physicsl disabilities won't get better only worse. Obviously my autism will be the same always

So you're disabled then @Andi66 But if you have a condition that can get better with treatment or therapy and wont be lifelong, then that would be long term sick.

So for instance, if someone is diagnosed with depression, with the right therapy and medication, that person will probably be fit for work in (guessing a random number) seven months. They'd be classed as long term sick.

I am "long term sick", psychiatric illness. Believe me, sometimes that can be so destructive/daily fight just to do anything I'm 62. I have been told by the time they get to reassessing me, they probably won't bother with any wra, as I'm pretty severe in my condition.

We will see. Would like to know when reassessment are said to be scheduled to start as I'm sure I read on Government website they would start April 2026 but can't find it again now.

Some people with severe depression/anxiety and trauma related sicknesses could take years to get better. Some people have been damaged to the point they will never recover. The Equality Act of 2010 says that mental illness should be seen as a disability as well! Most doctors see this.

Severe depression can also kill instantly and often does as people take their own lives because of depression every day, in fact I think the statistics are about every seven minutes.

I was always thought Scope was only for people with physical disabilities but on phoning the helpline about an issue, I was told by the advisor Scope covered all kinds of physical and mental ill health and saw mental ill health as a disability as well. It even says so in the website description.

You're correct @axab43 I myself suffer with chronic depressive disorder, amongst other things. This is why I was using random numbers and terms such as "Probably" each person is different and will react to treatments differently. Mental illnesses can indeed be disabilities.

Thank you. THere are certainly people with mild depression who could recover with therapy for the amount of time you specified. And there are those with psychiatric illnesses brought on by trauma for which it could take a long time. I'm just grateful I'm not too many years from retirement and won't have to bother with the DWP for many more years as engaging with them is enough stress for anyone, whether physically disabled or mentally.

(I have also found, for anyone reading this, on the Government Green Paper, hidden away, it states that WCA reassessments will start in April 2026! It is under the section on Welfare Reform.)

Thanks @axab43 apologies for not wording things better earlier haha. I think mental illness isn't black and white, which is where the government are going to have the most issues. The majority of people will recover and be able to get back to work with some support and understanding. Others may not recover for many many years, if at all.

Now if the government could create some jobs where people with mental health issues could just drop in to work on days when they felt able, that'd be amazing, we could probably all work then. But I don't see that happening.

As someone who claims for life long major depressive disorder and general anxiety disorder that I've had since puberty and is never going away I feel so utterly defeated by them targeting us in the substantial risk catagory for reassessment. I'm on very strong dose of two antidepressants and when they work (which they sure as hell aren't doing recently) I can just about manage day to day life as long as I avoid to many people, just. It's impossible to get the DWP to see I will always have this and despite my best efforts in my twenties to work I just can't do it without breaking down.

The thought of reassessment has got me feeling worse that I have in decades I just don't know if I can survive it

Most of my conditions I've had lifelong and decades long. Though none of them will get better including my new (diagnosed 2 yrs ago) condition won't go away, and theres no treatment for it,chronic conditions. But I've always just thought i was long term sick.i never thought of myself as disabled. Even though I've suffered the rigors of hell.
