LHA Allowance

Hi
I am hoping someone might be able to help.
I recently became entitled to the LHA 4 bedroom as my daughter has turned 16 and have other children. I currently live in a 3 bedroom.
I contacted UC via the journal to ask if I need to do anything or if this is an automatic update, to be told that I would only be paid the 4 bed allowance if I live in a 4 bed.
I have checked numerous sources that say different. It’s not about the number of rooms, it’s about the entitlement regardless of how many bedrooms you have in your home.
Can anyone confirm this is the case?
If it is - does anyone know if I need UC to manually change this or will it be an automatic calculation?
I’m going round in circles with them.
I rent privately.

Hey there @paperpanda and welcome to the community. 😊
I'm afraid I don't know a great deal about the housing side of things, but I think if you're in a 3 bedroom, you'll only get paid for the 3 bedrooms. But hopefully someone will be able to give you a proper answer soon, I just wanted to pop in and say hi.

My understanding of LHA is that you are paid according to bedroom entitlement, not how many rooms you actually have.

my understanding is you are paid as per how many bedrooms you are entitled to. For example we live in a 3 bed but with two daughters. We got the 2 bed allowance but then when our daughter became disabled and required sole use of a bedroom we were allowed to claim for an extra bedroom and were entitled to the 3 bed. I thought it was regardless of what size property you are in. I would google the GOV UK LHA rules, they must be online somewhere .
