Discretionary Housing Payments

hi hope all are ok ! For 3 years I've received DHP as I have 1 spare bedroom . My son is autistic and and it would cause severe stress and anxiety, upset doesn't cope with change I expressed all this in recent application 1/4/25
Just received a call from my council and they have refused this time on the grounds that I won't look for a smaller property due to my sons condition Surly this is discrimination towards a disabled adult
Any help please on this be great
Thank you

Hello @Poppydoll08
Discretionary Housing Payments are not intended for long-term use and many councils require you to show evidence of looking to resolve the situation long term.
If you disagree with their decision you should be able to appeal it.
There may be other options available to you too. Is the spare bedroom being used by your son? Would you be entitled to an additional room in your allowance for an overnight carer?
