hi I don’t know if anyone knows how to get help from getting a social worker to me with the I’m currently living with a friend after being taken advantage of by my I had to leave and take a non molestation order out of him as he was advantage of my disabilities being vulnerable adult very long story I had to move away from him for my own safety and I lost my home because of him and wouldn’t let me go back onto my old tenancy, so they have now put me back on the waiting list which I have been on for five years now they me to go private rent five years ago and they took me off the waiting list when I did this I landed up in an area I didn’t know and due to my disabilities I have short-term memory loss It was a nightmare so I have moved back to the area I I have waiting for a social worker to support me now years and I’ve been told that all they can do is assess me for my needs my disability needs and not for my help with the this true as all I’m wanting is to be put back on my old tenancy which my ex me off and was told by the if a social worker was to say this was the case they would act on this but it is impossible for me to even get a social worker to act on my behalf. Has anyone any how I go about getting someone a social worker?

Hi @mandas, that all sounds really tough I'm sorry you've had to deal with all that. Are you safe away from your partner now?

As part of your disability needs assessment they may be able to look into assigning you a social worker but it can be a bit different depending on where you live and what's available.

Could you perhaps see if there's an advocate in your area that could help you access social care and get the things that you need?

VoiceAbility | Advocacy and involvement, and POhWER might be worth a look.

I live in Hampshire I’ve been offered nothing other than social services saying that it takes a while for someone to be allocated to me but this has been over four years now I’ve managed to move away from my now ex husband and now living back in what I call my safe place “ my old home “ which is where I was until my ex manipulated me into taking me of my tenancy so we could have a place together so that way he had control over me that was over four years ago now domestic abuse people got involved and they were amazing a court order was put on him and he went back up north ‘ turns out he’s a serial player at playing on vulnerable ladies I was lady number three that I know of. My local council have all this information but still refuse to help me in anyway whatsoever I’ve tried my local councillor my Wellbeing Assessor - Waterside (PCN) endless letters from doctors and consultants but nothing’ the only person who was helpful was my wellbeing assessor but she has now come to the point where she can’t do anything else and she was the one who was told by the council if a social worker was to say that it was in my best interest that I live where I am living now “ home “ my old place where my oldest friend lives who has always cared for me then they would act on what they say but! It’s impossible to get a social worker all it seems they want to do is medically asses me that doesn’t help my situation whatsoever I need someone to fight my corner’ I have brain damage and I get very confused also short term memory loss and numerous other disabilities due to a serious RTA also I’m a vulnerable adult and I just can’t believe that no one is helping I’m exhausted with it all and don’t know what else to do.

Hi @mandas, that sounds really tough, I'm sorry they haven't got you a social worker yet after so long and it sounds like you've tried a lot of different things. I can understand how frustrating that must be, but I'm glad to hear that you've got a good friend close by to help support you.

Could you perhaps explain your situation to your MP to see if they can help?

Contact your MP - UK Parliament

The links I posted to advocacy might also be worth a try, they can often help contact agencies or push for things that you need. From what I can see, VoiceAbility have some services in Hampshire and they might be able to help you access the right care and support. Could be worth a go to see what they can offer you.

hi Rosie I have been in contact with my local MP my well-being assessor sent everything to him. What had been going on with all my medical evidence and et cetera, and he didn’t even have the decency to acknowledge any of it also Voice Ability been contacted and they are on standby to support me when needed but obviously there is nobody going forward to help me i.e. a social worker fighting my corner. I’m exhausted with it all. Just don’t know what else to do. how do I get a social worker to fight my corner? That’s all I’m asking but it seems impossible. 🤷‍♀️
